Avoid disaster relief scams
Before giving money to an organization for disaster relief, do your research. Unfortunately, some may take the opportunity to scam those just wanting to help.
“Be wary of charities that spring up too suddenly in response to current events and natural disasters,” the Federal Trade Commission says. “Even if they are legitimate, they probably don’t have the infrastructure to get the donations to the affected area or people.”
